The essentials of Anders Bäckström

What gear do the world’s best elite orienteers use? In this second, slightly humorous episode we asked Anders Bäckström aka Bäckis KUL aka Heja Sverige about his essentials.

1. O-Jacket
Very Green from Noname. This anorak style of jacket is very comfortable without the zipper that goes all the way down but instead with a large pocket in front for storing stuff like salted peanuts in.

2. O-Pant
Also very green and from Noname, in fact, a perfect match to the jacket. Althou good, they tend to wear out a bit too guickly in the crotch region. No more questions, we quickly changed subjects and went over to ask about Anders handheld equipment.

3. Glass
As large as possible, usually held in the right hand but as you can clearly see, Anders also masters it with the left hand like a real pro. He told us that this achievement took many years of hard practice to learn. We believe him!

4. Contents of above mentioned glass
Beer! No questions about it. Anders almost shouts out the answer. When we asked what beers he likes he just listed the most revolting liquids we could think of. Hoegarden, dunkel weissbeer (dark light beer?) and regular weissbeer. Today thou it was Tennents Ice Cold on the menu. Something we all could appreciate!

5. Surroundings
Three letters: Bar. Since we at the time of taking this picture were abroad, we could not make this interviev in Anders favourite surroundings, Oliver's Inn, but a bar is always a bar he tells us and smiles happily.

We suspect that Anders might have been setting us up for a bit of a joke here because we doubt he can hold that glass steady in the forest, and there are no checkpoints to find in a bar. So we might just see more of Anders during this series of essentials to have a real glimpse of what he actually brings with him in the forest.
